John’s uncle lived alone in a large house in Harrogate. As his closest relative, John had been granted a Health and Welfare Power of Attorney several years ago. Until recently, his uncle had been able to organise his affairs independently and received the support he needed from a growing team of housekeeping and ancillary staff. 

When his health deteriorated the team took on the role of caring for him. Their salaries were high and they didn't really have the skills required to provide the care support he needed. Costs escalated further when he had a chest infection and a registered nurse was employed on a live-in basis.

John talked to the solicitor who had helped with the Power of Attorney and she suggested contacting Grace Consulting. This really helped. John was advised that, with his uncle’s permission, a Grace Care Adviser could visit him and carry out a review of his care arrangements. His uncle welcomed this and the Care Adviser arranged a visit. During the visit, she carried out a detailed review of his care needs and the level of support currently in place. She then sent through a report setting out the current care needs, what support he actually needed and how this would be best achieved.

The outcome was great. Following the review and report, John and his uncle were able to scale down and reconfigure the existing team. The quality of the support John’s uncle now received improved tremendously – it was much more geared to his actual needs - and the costs reduced dramatically, leaving him in a much more financially sustainable position.

They were both so satisfied with the service that, with John’s uncle's health deteriorating and John living some distance away, they arranged for a Grace Care Adviser to visit every three months. This way John could keep tabs on the situation and make sure his uncle continued to have the most appropriate care in place.
