How best to care for elderly family members has become a fundamental issue of everyday life for families in the United Kingdom. In an ageing population, it is increasingly children and grandchildren aged 30 - 60 who have become responsible for deciding and organizing the care of their elderly family members. Demographics illustrate this current need and demonstrate how the issue will become even more important in the future:

• 16% of the population of the United Kingdom is aged 65 and over, and of these, 12% are over 85
